In high school, she forms a club with a childhood friend and hopes to one day be reunited with the boy who made her interested in the game to begin with.

This anime has competition, drama, character growth, and even a love triangle. It’s a unique and exciting show, and since there are three seasons, there is a lot of content to love. It quickly becomes a favorite of those who manage to discover it.

This show follows the Raven consort who lives deep in the Inner Palace. Many rumors circulate about her, and people attempt to get a glimpse of her to better understand the mysterious consort. She takes on any request without worrying about consequences, including curses, finding lost items, and love spells.

When the emperor visits her for the first time, the meeting becomes a catalyst for the show. Together, they solve mysteries and slowly start to fall for each other. There’s some darkness to the show, and critics say it can move rather quickly, but it’s beautiful. If you’re a fan of the Apothecary Diaries, you’ll love Raven of the Inner Palace.

7Noragami

Two Seasons

Noragami follows a middle school student who, due to a bus accident, can separate her soul from her body. She becomes aware of other parallel worlds where demons, phantoms, and beasts exist. She pairs with a god and his living weapon to beat these beasts and better understand her newfound life.

It’s pretty shocking that Noragami isn’t more popular because it has everything that a lot of popular anime do.There’s drama, mystery,hints of romance, growth, friendship, and great fights. It’s a really fun show that mixes serious episodes with moments of levity.

6Tomodachi Game

Tomodachi Game is very similar toSquid Game, so it’s shocking that it’s not more well-known. A group of high school students is forced into a game to figure out who stole their trip funds. The games shake friendships as the players try to figure out which of them is lying.

This psychological thriller has themes of friendship, class, and wealth. Players see changes in their personality as they become more ruthless and fight for money against their closest friends.

5Moriarty The Patriot

This show takes place during the 19th century during the British Empire. Albert Moriarty, our protagonist, adopts two orphans. All three of them have a hatred for the empire and corruption in politics, and they scheme to kill Albert’s older brother and destroy his life.

This is a witty show with murder, schemes, mystery, and even Sherlock Holmes. It’s an epic anime with multiple seasons, framing people for murder, and calling the corrupt out for their crimes.

4Sonny Boy

Sonnyboy takes place during summer vacation and follows a student named Nagara and his classmates. His classmates and he are transported to a different dimension as they are enjoying the summer heat. While they try to find their way home, they realize they’re all changing, some for the better, and others not so much.

This is not only a well-written and unique anime, but it also has beautiful music and stunning aesthetics. You might have to watch it more than once to truly appreciate its beauty, but it’s well worth the time commitment.

3Nina The Starry Bride

Nina the Starry Bride follows an orphan girl who replaces a dead princess so she can marry a neighboring kingdom’s prince to bring prosperity to her kingdom. She chooses to marry him and her entire personhood becomes someone new to complete this dangerous task.

This show has everything: a love triangle, political intrigue, mysteries, and a great protagonist. Some people have found it a bit underwhelming, but if you appreciate a good romance and royal intrigue, you’ll love the show.

2Psychic Princess

Psychic Princess is one of the most underrated romances out there. It’s about Qian YunX, a new princess who is forced to take her half-sister’s place in a marriage. It’s a political marriage where she spends most of her time alone. However, this princess has a secret - she can solve curses and see ghosts.

The main character in this show is incredibly brave and strong. It’s also one of the only shows that focuses on Imperial China instead of Imperial Japan, which makes it a unique setting. Plus, the romance is adorable.

1Golden Kamuy

Five Seasons

Golden Kamuy is the longest anime on this list with a whopping five seasons. It mirrors many real-life people and events, but it is, of course, dramatized for the show. The show highlights the Ainu people and their culture after the Russo-Japanese war.

This show is so unique. It has so much political intrigue, in-depth views of different people and cultures, post-war difficulties, and complicated story lines. It might not follow a typical anime format, but it’s an incredible watch.
