Summary

With the current generation of gaming finally receiving a constant stream of bangers,it can be easy to overlook some of the more crucial announcements from over the years that still have yet to come to fruition, with no release on the horizon, such as theSilksongsof the world.

While some titles have gone dark for what seems like an eternity, it’s crucial to note that modern game development is a lengthy process, which can explain the constant delays and hiccups in development cycles. Nonetheless, it’s always interesting to take a look back at some of the most anticipated titles that were announced, but are still, seemingly, far off!

Ubisoft Toronto

Perhaps the least worrying entry on this list is Splinter Cell’s remake project by Ubisoft, as it was only announced in December of 2021, and is taking about as long as you’d expect a modern AAA game to take in the oven. However, there are some concerns, as Ubisoft tends to announce games far too early, resulting in massive wait times between announcements and releases.

Unfortunately, this is also following that trend, with Ubisoft tweeting out a bizarre teaser of Sam Fisher’s face back in May of this year, with nothing else to follow it up. We expect to see more of it soon with a concrete release date, but their track record already has us worried it will be another half decade before we get to play this thing!

Saber Interactive (Current), Aspyr (Previous)

Announced in September 2021, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - Remake has already faced its fair share of development woes, leaving everyone wondering if it will ever see the light of day.Which is a bummer, considering this had so much potential.

Initially handled by Aspyr, the game’s development was put on hold after its art director and design director were fired, resulting in the project being handed over to Saber Interactive. While it’s still possible that this will see a release date in the future, it’s unlikely to be soon, if at all. All we can hope for is it releases and it’s a solid remake of a beloved title!

Cloud Chamber

It’s hard to believe that the next installment in the beloved Bioshock series was casually announced by 2K on Twitter in December of 2019, along with a brand-new studio named Cloud Chamber heading its development, making fans rejoice that they will finally get a new entry after 2013’s Bioshock Infinite.

However, aside from a few leaks here and there, there has been no official update, trailer, gameplay demonstration, or any other notable information on this project since then. While we’re sure this game is coming along well, we can’t help but feel a tad worried with the deafening silence. Please, don’t let us down!

Rare

Oooh, boy, where do we begin with Everwilds? This project is Rare’s first title after Sea of Thieves and was also announced back in 2019, but has since been through the ringer, reportedly going through a complete reboot, which explains why we haven’t seen or heard much of it since.

We want to believe this game is finally on the up and up,but it’s been reported to still be in a rough state, and now we’re left wondering if we will ever get our hands on Everwild. Every time they showcase it, it looks stunning, but we may never get to experience it, and that’s remarkably sad to think about!

Campo Santo

In the Valley of Gods is the next game from Firewatch developers Campo Santo that was announced way back in December of 2017, before the team was acquired by Valve sometime in April of the following year. Sean Vanaman, the head writer for In the Valley of Gods, was moved onto the writing team for Half-Life: Alyx, which put the game’s development on hold.

Aside from its release window being pushed to December 2029 on Steam, there has been no official update from the team since its announcement. Firewatch was an exceptional experience, so we hope Campo Santo can get back to business and release their next banger with In the Valley of Gods!

Neostream Interactive

Next up is Neostream Interactive’s Little Devil Inside, which was revealed all the way back in April 2015 via a Kickstarter campaign. Following a successful campaign, the team decided to push back the original release schedule and expand the game further, which led us to our current position.

Throughout this long decade-long wait, we have received several updates on this project, but there is still no concrete release date or even a release window for Little Devil Inside. Furthermore, there have been some shakeups that give us some cause for pause.

The last update was from last year, when Neostream Interactive announced that their team had been downsized and the project had transitioned to Unreal Engine 5, and released a new trailer. We hope it comes out the other end unscathed or that we even get to play it!

Odd Tales

Despite most people remembering this game as being first revealed at Xbox’s E3 Showcase in 2017, The Last Night was officially announced to be in full production by Odd Tales in 2014, with plans to have the game finished and launched by the end of 2016. Since then, the team has expanded and faced its fair share of shakeups and controversies, leading to its current unknown state.

Odd Tales' last update on production was in 2021, via PC Gamer, stating that they are taking their time with development and will release it when it is ready. Since then, there has been no update. The Last Night looks visually stunning and has an intriguing premise, so we hope the team can deliver something remarkable after spending over a decade of development time on it!

May 20, 2025 @ PlayStation 4 Reveal Event

Capcom

You all knew it was coming, and we feel obligated to include it, as Capcom has been radio silent on Deep Down since its reveal trailer at the PlayStation 4 reveal event in 2013 and has never officially cancelled it. Yup, it’s been that long. And, yes, we also feel old. This free-to-play medieval dungeon crawler was to be headed by Yoshinori Ono, of Street Fighter fame, and would utilize the new Panta Rhei engine.

Since then, Capcom moved to the RE Engine, never using the Panta Rhei engine for a single released game. The trademark lapsed in 2018.Yoshinori Ono said he hadn’t given up on the project a year later, then left the company a year after that. And, in 2021,former SIE Worldwide Studios chairman Sean Laden said that other members of Ono’s team might pick up the project and finish it.

Deep Down is a very, very fascinating game that is shrouded in mystery. While we desperately want this game to emerge from the rubble like Pragmata did, we aren’t holding our breath. Capcom has done some tremendous things lately, so who knows? However, it doesn’t look good!

Bandai Namco Studios

How many of you remembered that this was actually an announced title by Harada himself at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con? It’s been 15 years and counting since Tekken x Street Fighter was officially announced, only to be put on hold due to a variety of factors.

Harada said the game was roughly ten percent complete back in 2012, further confirming the game was still in development in 2014 at San Diego Comic-Con. In 2015, he stated that the game was progressing well, announcing Street Fighter’s Akuma for Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, which left fans wondering if that was a hint that Tekken x Street Fighter was further along than it seemed.

Sadly, in 2016, Harada announced that the project had been officially placed on hold and later reinforced that statement in 2018, saying it was approximately 30 percent complete. In 2019, Harada stated that he still wants to release the game, but there has been no official announcement on it since.

During a Harada’s Bar Radio episode in 2021, a mistranslation led fans to believe the project was dead. However,Harada corrected the situation on Twitter, stating that he meant the project was still on the shelf. So, alas, there is still hope. And we like those odds!

July 29, 2025 @ UbiDays 2008

Ubisoft Montpellier

Lastly, you know what time it is; we have to talk about Beyond Good and Evil 2 and how it was initially announced all the way back in 2008. You read that correctly. Beyond Good and Evil 2 was announced 17 years ago. And, to make matters worse, after its announcement in 2008, it went radio silent until it remerged in 2017 at Ubisoft’s E3 conference.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 received another cinematic trailer a year later, in 2018, at another Ubisoft E3 conference. It has since gone relatively quiet, with only reports of development progressing well via Ubisoft, ultimatelysurpassing Duke Nukem Forever as the longest-delayed game, which isn’t the best company to be in.

Even with Ubisoft assuring everyone that the game still exists,we find it very challenging to believe we will ever see in in action, let alone be able to play it, as it has been 17 years since it was announced, paired with long stretches of silence, reports of creative differences causing delays, and so much more controversies, shake ups, and turmoil.

Like with all entries on this list, we hope Ubisoft proves everyone wrong, releases a solid product, and delivers something unforgettable. But it’s hard to even imagine what this game is like at this point. Here’s to hoping they knock it out of the park!
