For better or for worse, video game fans can get pretty locked into video game lore. These games and their stories mean something to us. Sometimes, I suspect they mean more to us than they do to the people who are actually developing certain games. That may seem harsh, but betweeninconsistencies and sloppy retcons, it really feels that way sometimes. From incoherent plot twists to inconsistent characterizations to laughable retcons, I’ve collected some of the most egregious examples of games just spitting in the eye of their own canon....

Chrono Odyssey is an upcoming action MMO that’s been getting a lot of hype and attention lately, both from its recenttrailer at Summer Games Festand the closed beta test that just started running and will last until June 22. As with all games, the greater the hype, the louder the critical comments, and Chrono Odyssey’s beta test is proving to be in quite a different state than we’d previously seen in the gorgeous preview trailers and promotional content....

Cyberpunk 2077’s latest updatewent live this week, adding even more content to the game long after we thought support had ceased. One of the new features of the update isself-driving cars- something we knew was always part of the lore, but was never an option for V outside of the main story. However, it looks like you might be better off taking the wheel yourself. Cyberpunk players have quickly found that the autodrive feature is less than reliable, with videos showing how slow, accident-prone, and just overall busted it is....

There’s a type of multiplayer shooter out there that doesn’t really have a name and doesn’t get enough attention. I call them easy co-op shooters, not because of their difficulty, but because it’s easy to jump straight into a match with your friends without any obstacles getting in your way. You don’t have to worry about someone being behind in the story or not leveled up enough to party with you....
