TheLegoGame Boy set has got me. I’ve been got. Not only does it look incredible, but it is even priced reasonably. Who saw that coming? From its swappable cartridges to its absolutelyadorablelenticular screens, this Lego set just does it for me. But, since I’m always looking for the next thing, it does beg the question, what other consoles should get this treatment? I think I specifically want to target portables here, as I want more Lego consoles with lenticular displays and swappable cartridges....

If you want a wholesome and relaxing gaming session with friends, you typically want to avoid party games or PvP shooters. After all, they’re naturally competitive games, which can lead to fallouts and rage. Yet, co-op games put you all on the same side, meaning it should create harmony among you and your gaming buddies. That isn’t always the case, though. There are co-op titles that can still lead to plenty of frustration, typically because they’re very challenging or require a lot of cooperation....

Over the past few console generations, anime video games have gotten a bad rap. Most of them, like Jujutsu Kaisen,My Hero Academia, andOne Punch Man, are 3D arena fighters that put more stock into spectacle, retelling the anime’s story arcs, and massive rosters than they do in complex fighting mechanics or offering unique ways to play. However, there are a select few that do 3D arena fighting so damn well that it hardly matters....

Funcom’sDune: Awakeningis primarily a survival game, and compared to others in the genre, its combat is actually perfectly serviceable. It’s not good by any means — more accurately, I’d call the current state of combat right now “mid.” But Awakening is also an endgame PvP MMO. However, we’ve not seen any snippets of this endgame yet, which is a little concerning considering the game is due to release in just under a month....

WithDeath Stranding, Hideo Kojima found a way for players to make connections through a single player game. Porters who traverse the land before you leave behind tools and equipment that assist you with your own journey to make precious deliveries. This kind of system did sort of exist before Death Stranding, in the way ofDark Souls' messaging system, but Kojima’s game took it to the next level by incorporating gameplay tools, thus coining the term ‘Strand Game’....

At long last,Final Fantasy 14fans are getting a feature that they’ve been after for ages. As of Patch 7.3,Square Enixis officially rolling out optional chat bubbles, letting users on all platforms use the feature which is currently only available with mods. Chat bubbles were shown off in Final Fantasy 14 screenshotsas early as October 2023, but there was no word on when they would be rolled out into the game. Back then, the devs just said it was in the works, and now, we know that it will be available in-game sometime in early August....

After originally releasing on thePlayStation 5in 2023,Final Fantasy 16has quickly made its way beyondSony’s flagship console. In 2024,the game was ported to PC, and just a few weeks ago,it was released via shadowdrop on the Xbox Series X/S, leaving only theNintendo Switchas the only console without the latest entry. Well, it looks like that could change. As first spotted by Video Games Chronicle, series producer Naoki Yoshida, AKA Yoshi-P, recently said during a livestream that it’s “just Nintendo left” when it comes to porting FF16....
